There are many different types of art out
there. Even within each type of art there are many
subdivisions. If you like paintings, you might prefer modern
expressionism over the impressionists, if you like sculpture, you might
prefer bronze over wood. The recipient of the gift probably has the
same preferences, and you most probably are not completely sure of their
taste. The general rules for buying any type of art is to purchase
something (1) by a known artist (or a good facsimile); (2) on a hobby or
interest that the recipient enjoys; and (3) from a place with a return
policy (and tell them it is okay if they do not like it and want to return
it). If you are purchasing something expensive, make sure you are
going to a reputable dealer. |
