FACTS AND HISTORY ABOUT UNITED NATIONS DAY

The United Nations, with 50 original
member nations was formally chartered on October 24, 1945. This
group came together on the notion of bringing all the nations of the world
together to fight world hunger, strife, misery and war. In 1947, the
United Nations General Assembly proclaimed October 24th to be United
Nations Day to celebrate the founding of the U.N. and its ideals.
President Truman then proclaimed this date to be United Nations Day, as so
have every President since. United Nation Day celebrations do occur around
the world each year by international food festivals, diversity seminars,
and formal debates on world-wide issues. |
