Armistice Day commemorated the
signing of the Armistice by Germany to end their involvement in
WWII. It developed into Veteran's Day which includes commemorating
the Veterans of all Wars.
Created by Congress in 1940 to
commemorate all citizens of the U.S., the scope was expanded in 1952
when the date was changed to Feb. 29th, the day of the signing of the
U.S. Constitution, so that citizens should not only celebrate their
being American, but remember the rights and responsibilities of being an
American.
